Move On

These two words together hold and create tension – friction in some cases. Repetitive words in differing shades of meanings.

“I needed to move on,” he said, “I learned the hard way.” Came up in a conversation and I didn’t ask for more, but know that it was regarding people that died. His people. One we had in common.

A few days later part of a text message read, “…and I’m realizing I’m ready to close that chapter and move forward.” She was referring to our friend who died. “I think a lot of our connection this past year has been tied to…”. Okay and obviously. Move on then.

Two examples – different walks of a life. One cause; One common denominator.

Moving on is a right, even a rite of passage for some. Probably a healthy choice in some measures of time. Witnessing it up close can be hurtful, being pushed to do so painful..damaging even. Instinctive choices.

Around a decade ago, in a sort of mid century shift, I stopped replacing that which was lost. Lost as in: left, disappeared, damaged, taken, destroyed or died. As small as plants that didn’t survive outside extremes, as big as business situations damaged by larger circumstances, relationship partners that left and the ultimate death of pets and people – lots of people.

Some say, ‘Write it down to let it go.’ Or like a wild animal, just keep going.
